Palo Santo 29/06/2021

Palo Santo, Latin for Bursera Graveolens, is a tree native to South America. From time immemorial, it has been of immense spiritual importance to the inhabitants of these areas – thanks to its properties, the chunks of this tree were used as incense, which supported the cleaning and healing of the space and people at deep levels.

HISTORY

Palo Santo has been used as an incense since the days of the ancient Incas. The Incas used it for various magical, purifying, and healing effects in various spiritual rituals. Palo Santo usually accompanied and still accompanies, for example, the traditional Ayahuasca ceremonies.

CHEMISTRY

The tree chunks contain mainly terpenes, essential oils, and phenols.

Palo Santo is known especially for its high content of limonene, which is found in citrus and gives the tree a unique exotic aroma. It also contains alpha-terpineol and carvone compounds, which have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, relaxing, and harmonizing properties that support the overall regeneration of the body.

EFFECTS

Palo Santo purifies the space of negative energies, promotes intuition and creates a suitable environment for deep spiritual work.

Active substances when inhaled or applied dermally (in the case of oil) support the immune system, relieve mental and physical pain and promote relaxation.

USE

Carefully light the blocks and let them smolder. With smoke, you can cleanse the space prepared for the ritual and create a positive background. Smoke can also cleanse objects or people. Palo Santo is also advisable to burn in case of excessive mental exhaustion. It supports intuition and insight and is thus a suitable companion for meditation.
