Theobroma cacao – a gift from the gods

The cacao tree (lat. Theobroma cacao) is an evergreen tree native to South America. Its seeds – cacao beans – have been valued by mankind for thousands of years. They are used to make cacao, high-quality chocolate, and ceremonial cacao, which retains most of the nutrients and plant intelligence from this sacred tree.

The combination of caffeine and theobromine provides the body with a gentle, stable boost. Amino acids and neuroactive substances such as tryptophan and anandamide promote good mood, creativity, and cognitive function. It is therefore no surprise that cacao, with its heart-opening qualities that promote empathy, gratitude, and a deeper sense of belonging, is considered a true superfood for the body, mind, and spirit.

For a more detailed description of the plant and more information about its effects, history and method of use, visit our Herbarium.

Flavor profile

PeruvianCriollo cacao is characterized by a delicately earthy, slightly bitter-sour taste that carries the essence of the cacao plant in its purest form. The aroma is lively, energizing, and uncompromisingly authentic—clearly distinct from traditional sweetened chocolate products. Thanks to gentle processing, cacao has a finely grained texture and a rich, full expression.

Peru – Land of Sacred Mountains and Rainforests

Peru is a land of ancient civilizations, sacred mountains, and the profound wisdom of the Andes. The landscape here ranges from Amazonian rainforests to mountain passes to quiet plateaus, where plants with healing and ritual powers have been cultivated for centuries. Nature is still a living teacher here, and respect for the Earth, its cycles, and traditions is a natural part of everyday life.

Just as this country embodies depth, tranquility, and inner strength, so does our Peruvian cacao, which invites you to quiet your mind, return to yourself, and consciously experience the present moment.

Criollo variety

Criollo is one of the oldest and rarest cocoa varieties in the world. It is prized for its delicacy, complex flavor, and high aromaticity. In Peru, Criollo is grown mainly on small plots of land, often in organic and regenerative systems that respect the natural rhythm of the landscape.

This variety gives cacao a cacao , livelier character with an invigorating effect, making it ideal for morning rituals, meditation, exercise, and creative activities.

Peru's emphasis on biodiversity and origin

Our Peruvian cacao from small cooperatives in the Amazon region around Pucallpa, where cacao trees are mainly grown in mixed cultures and agroforestry systems. This method of farming promotes biodiversity, improves soil quality, and contributes to carbon sequestration in the landscape.

Our local partners take care of the entire value chain – from cultivation to fermentation and drying to logistics. Farmers are supported by regular training in organic cultivation and cacao processing.

The harvested beans are sent to a production plant in the Peruvian Andes (Cajamarca region), where they are carefully processed into raw cocoa mass that retains its full nutritional spectrum: high antioxidant content, minerals such as magnesium, iron, and zinc, theobromine, tryptophan (which boosts mood and energy), and the neurotransmitter anandamide, otherwise known as the "bliss molecule." Cacao also included in a traceability program that allows each product to be traced back to its origin and offers deeper insight into the world of its cultivation and processing.

Effects and ceremonial use

Peruvian cacao has a pleasantly stimulating effect and promotes concentration. It gently warms, helps open the heart, and brings clarity of mind. Thanks to its theobromine, anandamide, and tryptophan content, it naturally promotes good mood and inner balance.

It is ideal for morning rituals, cocoa ceremonies, meditation, exercise, and creative work. It helps you to be present, connected with yourself and others, and brings a conscious dimension to everyday life.
