Passionflower, Latin Passiflora incarnata, is a perennial climbing plant that likes to boast of its magnificent large flowers, which are colored in shades of blue, white and purple.
The plant is known primarily for its effect on the nervous system – it relieves stress, anxiety, depression and induces a positive state of mind. It can be used as a natural antidepressant. It also has mild sedative effects, so it is advisable to take it rather in the evening. The latest studies confirm that it also has a beneficial effect on our sleep – it promotes faster falling asleep and improves the overall quality of sleep. It can therefore serve as an effective remedy against insomnia.
Passionflower, however, has a much wider spectrum of action. It can dampen a number of health problems occurring on the body level – relieves dry and irritating cough, harmonizes the digestive system and helps in the treatment of diarrhea. The soothing effect on menstrual pains, hemorrhoids and migraines is also described.
Preparation and dosage:
The effective dose of this extract is around 100mg = 1/10 (one tenth) of a teaspoon.
The extract can be applied in a variety of ways - it can be poured over hot water or juice and drunk. It can also be put directly into the mouth or under the tongue - sublingual application, where it is left for one minute and then swallowed. In case of stronger neuroses we use it during the day, max. 3 times a day.
