Guayusa, Latin Ilex guayusa, is a traditional Amazonian plant whose leaves are used to make a highly energizing drink. It belongs to the same family as the popular Yerba mate, but it contains a much higher amount of health benefits and thus has even more beneficial effects on our body. There is, of course, caffeine, which is found in similar levels to coffee. Unlike coffee, however, it is released gradually, which causes a long-lasting stimulation without unpleasant bodily sensations. Another interesting ingredient is theobromine, a compound known for its euphoric and aphrodisiac effects, which is also found in cocoa beans.
The plant is also similar to green tea in its content of active substances. It contains the substance l-theanine, which relaxes and calms the body and helps against anxiety. It also contains a large number of antioxidants that support immunity and slow down the aging process. The prepared drink is dark brown in colour and its specific bitter earthy taste with slightly caramel undertones cannot be mistaken for anything else.
The tincture production process:
The Wayusa leaves are extracted by ultrasound under strictly regulated processes where the temperature never exceeds 38 degrees Celsius. This production process ensures that the medicinal bioactive compounds of the plant remain intact and retain their original properties and synergistic action.
It is a purified extract. Non-essential fatty acids have been additionally removed to preserve the high amount of active substances of the plant. Each 1ML of extract contains approximately 3-4 grams of Wayusa leaves.
The tincture has a long shelf life because it contains alcohol as a preservative, which prevents the spread of unwanted microorganisms. For each litre of extract, 1 kilogram of dried Wayusa leaves was used.
